"The only lullaby I ever really like is 'London Bridge is Falling Down'."

"It is a nursery rhyme, Mello."

"My mother sang it as a lullaby when I refused to go to bed. It's the only song which can calm me down."

"Why is that?"

"She sounded nice when she goes, 'My dear Mihael...'."

"......Why are you telling me this?"

"Nothing."

"......"

"I just want to."

"Mello is always a mystery."

"Good to know. So, Near... tell me something."

"...something?"

"Anything."

"Is Mello trying to prolong this conversation?"

"Just say something, or I'm leaving."

"...Mello, have you ever heard that every person have four selves?"

"No..."

"Both of us can see the first self; then the self which you can see but I can't; the self which I can see but you can't and the self which none of us can see."

"That last self can only be seen by God?"

"Perhaps."

"Hmm."

......

Mello looked down and caught a glimpse of light bouncing off the silver cross dangling from his rosary. Slowly, Near reached out and took that cross into his hand.

"Does Mello believe in God?"

Mello kept his focus on Near's fingers. Those fingers touching delicately at the cross, as if a moment of mishandling would shattered it. Gently removing Near's hand from the cross, he laid his head on Near's lap. A faint smile formed on Mello's lips when he looked towards the sky of somber dusk.

"Only when he answers my prayer."

"Mello... this will be a never-ending race between us."

Goodnight.

"Good dreams, Dear Mello."

Good dreams.
