A was expected to die on 22nd of August.

Never-ending tests and endless replies of "A, good answer. However, it's still not quite at L's level." frequently drove A into states of extreme pressure and anxiety. Once, he had thought of running away from the orphanage but he was reminded of Mr. Wammy's kindness and how much of a fatherly figure he was to him.

All the chess games, warm bedtime tuck-ins and all things wonderful delivered by Mr. Wammy was something he never dream he could ever have. Refusing to disappoint himself or Mr. Wammy, he decided to persevere harder. A couple more months went by with no improvements and bouts of depression in-between; he finally realized he had reached his limit.

"I yearn for death." A confessed softly, fingers fidgeting with a knight chess piece which he always keep in his pocket.

Beyond, not even bothered to appear surprise, stopped stacking the jam packets and looked up, his eyes gazing at the numbers above A's head. "Soon enough, A... soon enough."

"It can come sooner." A breathed. "Help me, B."

31st of July.

Beyond had expected A to bleed to death when he brought him to an abandoned house and stabbed him.

A's body was expected to be discovered in about a week's time with no clue whatsoever linking him to it. But in less than four hours, A was in hospital and Beyond found himself standing in Wammy's office facing the polices and a bewildered Mr. Wammy in amazement.

Apparently some kids, who recognized B, from the town area were playing hide and seek near the abandoned house and witnessed the scene. When the kids described that B was smiling as he drove that shiny army knife into A's stomach, it took the judge less than a second to decide to put him into a asylum instead of juvenile center.

22nd of August.

A died.

It was deemed suicide when he was discovered with a ghastly wound on the side of his right neck, a fruit knife in his hand and a bloodied knight chess piece by his side.

That was the day when Beyond understood that, no matter what he do, the numbers floating above a person's head will never change.
